I didn't want to hijack the earlier BV203 dipstick post from yesterday, so I thought I would start a new one.
I am in the process of installing a new BD1005 in my 1965 Allied Seabreeze.With everything perfectly aligned, the oil fill and dipstick are located just aft of the companionway bulkhead and under the ****pit deck.If I remove the sink, I can get access to both with some contorting/twisting gyrations.Is there any adapter kit that allows a second dipstick to be installed on the side of the engine.Maybe a modified oil pan that permits this??Is there any remote sensor.Same applies for the oil fill any adapter I can installed in place of the cap that permits remote filling.If the answer is no, I can modify the sink to make it more easily removable, but this is still going to make for messy oil inspections and fills.
One last question:The engine sits on an angle.How should I read the dip stick?Should I level the engine, fill to normal level, than install on incline, check level and put a new hash mark on the stick to mark this level?Or should I fill to the level indicated, independent of inclined angle?
Your engine, like the 2203 has a plug on the starboard side. It is a simple matter to prise this out and fit the standard Kubota low level dipstick. These dipsticks only cost between $8 and $10.
This wont unfortunately, help with your oil fill issue and the only recommendation that I have here is for a funnel with a tube on it. These are commonly available from auto parts stores.
Your engine should not be at a steep enough angle to make re-calibrating the dipstick necessary.
