I have a BD722 with the TMC-40 transmission. 450 hours on engine and transmission.
When shifting into forward after starting the engine cold, the transmission does not engage immediately. Sometimes slightly revving the engine will engage the transmission and sometimes it does not engage even when engine is revved...it can take as much as 30 seconds for the transmission to finally engage. I don't remember this happening until the engine has been shut down and cooled somewhat. I have made sure the linkage is adjusted so that the forward position of the shift lever is fully extended and I have changed the transmission fluid. Does not happen in reverse. Any ideas?
I should speak with you directly regarding a diagnoses. Please call me at 252-249-2473 to discuss and describe how the gear is operating. I would still lean toward the linkage as the issue.
I believe the delay of transmission engagement problem is solved! My conversation with Ferron was very enlightening...it seems that after the clutch cones in the transmission wear in a bit, they can be adjusted closer together with a simple quarter turn of the adjustment rod after loosening the locknut on the end of the shift lever. Thank you!
I have a Beta 16 which has been running beautifully all season and recently am experiencing a drop off on power transfer to the propeller. Best described as like riding the clutch, good engine revs but reduced power to the propeller. I had an engineer check it and he advised a new gearbox was needed.
Anyone got any comment or direction as this sounds a little drastic.
