I have the BD722 engine conected to the control panel with the tach, temp guage, ignition and warning lights. The hour meter that displays in the tach has gone totally blank. Night or day, warm or cold outside temps, the display is simply a blank LCD screen. I searched this forum and saw at least one other occurance of this issue, but no definitive fix.
All other guages work fine, and there do not seem to be any loose or disconnected wires on the back of the panel. Help in getting the display working again would be much appreciated!
From your description your panel is fitted with the old model VDO tach. This problem is (I believe) caused by moisture and has sometimes been cured by removing the tach and placing it on an airconditioner vent at home for a day. If this fails I would fit a generic hour meter and wire it into the ignition switch. This is much more economical than replacing the tach.
BTW, the engine/panel/gauges were installed in 2003 (I think). It is a VDO meter, but it's in a pretty dry location. Dissapointing design for a marine gauge to fail due to indirect moisture.
If I install a generic hour meter, I assume it will only start counting from that point forward? Not a big deal as I think I was showing less than 300 hours when the display went out.
