Alternator to Blue Sea ACR charging relay

I haven't researched this problem and wondered if there is any simple experience at hand.  I have installed the new Beta 482, hooked up the electrical/engine connections as prescribed in the manual, etc.  In the previous engine setup, I had a direct connection from the alternator to the Blue Sea ACR to service two battery banks....house and main engine start.

With the new install, is there a simple laymans wiring schematic to connect two battery banks using the charging relay?  I have to admit, that I'm am showing charging back through both battery banks when the engine is running simply by connecting the engine to the starting battery....perhaps the ACR is working as is...however I need to undertstand how to make sure.

Hello James,

You do not state which particular Blue Seas ACR that you have.

Wiring details for a Blue Seas ACR can be found here. http://bluesea.com/files/resources/instructions/990170140.pdf

Usually an ACR is an automatic battery switch that closes and parallels two batteries when the voltage of one of the two batteries reaches a pre-programmed voltage.

Typically at over 13 volts the switch closes. This allows the battery with the higher volt charging source to share the charge across both batteries.

When the voltage drops the switch opens and isolates the batteries.

With the ACR system you should wire your engine starting system per the Beta instructions.

The ACR switch would be connected between the starting battery and the house battery and not between the alternator and the battery.

With the Beta engine running you should see enough output voltage from the alternator to close the ACR. The alternator output will then be shared across both batteries.
