I talked with Farron last week about a problem I was having where my 2008 Beta 16 would start up fine, but when I tried to put it into gear it would stall. He sugegsted after our discussion that my throttle mechanism was probably causing a problem with revving the engine before getting fully into gear.
I looked at that, and it seemed to be the case, so I replaced the throttle control mechanism, and the cables. When I started the engine, it started fine. I went to shift into gear, and the engine seemed to go into gear, but when I went back to neutral, the engine started revving very fast. I could not control the rpms with the throttle, nor when I disconnected the cable from the mechanism on the engine, that would not affect change either. The stop solenoid also did not work. I shut off fuel from getting to the engine and it stopped.
I've read another post where something like this happened to someone who got water in their fuel causing something to foul the injector pump rack. I don't see evidence of water in the primary Racor filter. I read elsewhere that if the engine oil is overfull, the engine can start to burn the oil and it can enter a runaway state. I did check my oil level, and it was a bit low, so I added some, but it did not appear overly full. Any suggestions?
Dan, From your description something is definately wrong and I cant tell you what it is. I think that the time has come to get a professional mechanic on board. Stanley
