Last year I installed a Beta 14 with an ABVW panel. Since there is no key for security purposes, I would like to add an on-off 12 volt rocker switch in a discrete location. The rocker switch would be wired so that no 12 volt power reaches the ABVW panel unless the rocker switch is in the "on" position.
Can you please provide guidance on which existing harness wire(s) would need to be routed through the new rocker switch to accomplish this, and the recommended amperage rating of the new rocker switch?
There is a brown/white wire which supplies power to the panel. This comes in to terminal # 1 in the multi pin plug.
I suggest that you fit a heavy duty toggle switch to this wire as an on/off switch.
Thanks so much for the additional info. I went to the boat and used my Link 10 ammeter to measure the glo-plug current draw, about 26 amps. I see Blue Seas Systems offers a 40 amp magnetic breaker (part no. 7224) that should do the job nicely. With this magnetic breaker installed, I suppose I would longer need the difficult to access 40 amp fuse. Any harm in removing/bypassing it or should I just leave it for extra protection?
Thanks for the very useful info. I'll also add a switch guard to cover the breaker/toggle switch to protect it from the possibility of being accidentally bumped and switched off while the engine is running.
