Repowering a Fisher 30 Northeaster motorsailer

Greetings:  We're looking at options for repowering our 1979 Fisher 30 Northeaster (Fairway Marine, Ltd) that has a 36-hp Volvo Penta MD17C. We have

a 17" three-bladed prop. The Volvo MSB reverse gear has a reduction ratio of 1.91:1. Would a Beta 38 be the most appropriate fit?

Hello Rick,

Welcome to the forum.

The Beta 38 would be a fine choice for a motor sailor such as the Fisher 30. Use a lower ratio gear and as large a prop as practical. 17" - 18" dia would be appropriate. You will need a right hand propeller.

This install has been done at least once before. If you send a message to my email I will try to locate the photos and email them back to you.

Thanks for this. Just sent you an email as suggested. I appreciate any photos or further thoughts on a Beta 38 installation on a Fisher 30 Northeaster.  Rick
