Proper ATF fill level for transmission mounted on a down angle?

My TMC 60 A manual specifies that the transmission, even though a down-angle unit itself, can be mounted on a down angle up to 15 degrees. My engine, and so the transmission, is mounted with about 8 degrees down angle (i.e., prop shaft is about 15 degrees down angle in total).

The manual says to fill the transmission with 0.8 L of ATF.  I changed the fluid this weekend and, after draining the transmission well and adding 0.7 L of ATF, the fluid level was already VERY high on the dipstick. So I removed fluid to come down to the top mark on the dipstick but am now concerned that could be incorrect for the down-angle mounting. How does the fill level change when the transmission is mounted with a down angle; is the dipstick still accurate?

I suggest that you use the full mark on the dipstick as the full mark.
The angle of installation will affect to quantity of oil in the unit.

Full mark is clear. Do you mean that the angle of installation will not affect the level?

Hello B.M.

With the transmission at only 8° angle, the dipstick will set the level correctly. The volume of fluid used may be different than what is spec'd in the manual however the required level of fluid should be the same and this is established by the marks on the dipstick. It is important that you do not fill the transmission to above the full mark on the dipstick. Keep the fluid level between the marks.
