Plastic gooseneck exhaust

Im repowering a Falmouth Cutter 22 (sailboat) with very limited space in the engine compartment.  Running proper exhaust hose with a loop at transom is a challenge.

I see that Beta Marine sells a plastic gooseneck exhaust that looks like it would be just the trick for my boat, but my mechanic who is doing the repower doesnt like plastic going to a through-hull...  he is strongly suggesting I dont use the gooseneck, and just use more hose to make the recommended loop.

Im wondering how many Beta users are also using the plastic gooseneck, and if theyre having any problems with it?

thanks for any thoughts on this,

Ricki

Hello Ricki,

Welcome to the forum. We have sold many of these goosenecks and have not had any complaints over the last 12 years.

The shape of the gooseneck allows for a tight installation and the design actually is an expansion chamber so the water that comes in the outlet when sailing never gets very far up the expansion chamber before the boat changes its attitude to the water and the water that came in the exhaust outlet, falls out.

I cannot answer for your mechanic's personal likes and dislikes.

Best wishes,
Stanley

We have had a similar plastic gooseneck that still works well after 16 years
