I am repowering with a Beta 25 with a Letrika 75 Amp alternator. I have two house banks and a starter battery, all of which are cabled to an isolator. The instructions for the Isolator (approx 18 y/o) indicate that it is not compatible with alternators that have internal voltage sensors. (my old engine had a Balmar alternator with an external regulator)
After consulting with a marine electrician, I am planning to replace the existing isolator with a 100 or 200Amp Argofet Battery Isolator. I need to know how to connect the alternator to the new isolator.
The wiring diagram in the Beta manual shows a cable running from the B+ terminal on the alternator to the Battery Positive terminal on the starter, which in turn is connected to the starter battery. If I connect the isolator to the B+ terminal of the alternator, then the isolator input terminal will be connected directly to the starter battery, which (it seems to me) will defeat the purpose of an isolator. My Beta salesman told me to remove that cable and simply connect the alternator output to the isolator. Is this correct?
