I'm looking at replacing my a4 in my C&C 33 mark 1. It has a Vdrive with a 16in Maxi Prop. Displacement of 10000 lbs and water line lenght of 26 ft. What do you think of the BD902 or the 28hp version. It also has a 2 to 1 reduction gear. Any comments would be appreciated
Either of these engines will be fine for your boat. I would look more at the BD902 (Beta 25) as it is physically a bit smaller and has more than enough power a C&C33. The slightly smaller engine will be easier to install and will save you a few $ as well.
I have worked on a 25HP (BD902) and if you have a 2 blade Max prop this will fall in on the sweet spot for the Max Prop blades which is 11" pitch. With the engine propped like this you will be able to reach the full engine RPM in gear and should get 6knots at about 2,600 to 2,800 RPM. This will give you relaxed and economical cruising and good reserve of power.
We can do this but it is a very expensive option. The engine comes as standard from the factory with an industrial epoxy paint finish.
We have in the past special ordered an unpainted engine for some customers and had a local painter prep and paint engines. However, because of the labor costs involved and the cost of the Awlgrip, you are looking at $250 for this option.
tHANKS AGAIN I ORDERED THE 25HP LAST WEEK,AND LOOKING FORWARD TO THE INSTALLATION. ONE MORE QUESTION. WILL THE DIESEL RUN ON BIO-DIESEL FUEL. AND WOULD YOU RECOMMEND USING IT.
