Some questions about a brand new Beta 38

Stanley,

Bud Taplin just helped me install a Beta 38 in my Westsail.  Beautiful!  But I'm a touch concerned.  What is the oil capacity (shallow sump) in quarts?  I'm old and metric is not automatic.  I figured about 7+, but when I put the first oil in, it only took 4 quarts.  Possible that after the factory run-in they didn't completely empty the oil?  Same question for the coolant.  I could only add a gallon and a bit, but I calculate I need almost 2 gallons.  The tranny took just what seemed right, 2/3 quart.  Any help would be appreciated.  Also any line on finding 7/8 hose to the injection nozzle would be helpful.  Bud brought 3/4 and that's all I can find here in St. Pete.  He said something about adapters that usually came with his engines.  Let me know.  I'm very excited to get it fired up in a day or two.  The install with your brackets was a piece of cake!

Thanks,

Ken Schatz

Hello Ken,

You are I believe quite correct. I believe that after the engine was tested at the factory, not all the oil was pumped out. I am sure that not all the coolant was drained either.

On a completely empty engine you should be able to fill with 6 to 6.5 qts of engine oil. This amount assumes that you have changed the oil filter as well.

The coolant capacity is really just over 1-1/2 Gal.

We keep 7/8" hose in stock. We keep both the soft wall and the hard wall hose and this hose is made by Shields. this hose should not be hard to get as we buy it from our normal marine suppliers.

Regards, Stanley

The new engine runs great. We're really happy with the service from Beta and the expertise of Bud Taplin.

Now to make everything perfect. My wife says we need some Beta-red paint for the places Bud let me use the wrench :) Where do we get that? From you? Is it a standard that Lowe's or some such will have?

I suggested nail polish, but she's having none of it.

Thanks again,

Ken Schatz

Hello Ken,

I appologise for the late reply. I was on the West coast for a boat show (Oakland) and then took another few days to see some dealers.

The touch up paint that we use is made by Dupli.Color and we purchase this at our local Napa store. The part number of the paint is DE1605 Ford Red.

Have fun, Regards,
Stanley
