Hi Stanley, We're planning another long cruise this summer and I have a question on our overall operating procedure when under engine power. We typically cruise at 1400 rpm which is well under the maximum recommended for our Beta 38. Should we consider running up the rpm every now and again to "burn off" any residues or is OK to run as this low of a speed for long hours?
Other than not getting the full output from our alternator are there any negatives from running at this low rpm?
Dont worry about it. There are thousands of these engines on canal boats in the UK and they all run slowly all the time because the speed limit on the waterways is 4 MPH. These engines show no signs of distress and many have been on charter use since 1995.
While it wont hurt to "blow the cobwebs out occasionally" it is not obligitary.
