1972 Bristol28 repower

Previous engine was Farymann A40.  Boat is approx 10,000 lbs.  Looking for recommended replacement.  Folding 2 blade propeller.  Will i need new mount?
Will I need new water pump?  Will I need new alternator?  Will I need new gauges?

Any good reconditioned engines available?

Dave

Hello Dave,

Your new engine will come complete with a new panel, harness, alternator, starter, raw water pump, heat exchanger cooling, transmission, shaft coupling, flexible coupling, shaft coupling, flexible mounts, oil change pump manuals etc. I would use the Beta 14 (BZ482) in this boat and you will find that it has more power than the Farymann had when it was new and is much smoother running and quieter.

I have only seen two used small diesels in the past 11 years and dont have one at the moment.

Regards,
Stanley

Thanks for getting back to me.   Here is my dilema.  My boat is probably worth $5,000-$6,000 WITH AN ENGINE, without an engine I will probably donate it to a maritime program.  If I could get an engine INSTALLED for no more than $6,000 I would probably keep the boat.  Over $6,000 I would likely donate it.
Stanley, send me a quote.  I have my fingers crossed.

Hello Dave,

I think that your pricing is a bit unrealistic. You may find a used engine somewhere and then find someone to install it on the cheap and I wish you luck finding either. If I could find good small used marine diesels, I would have no problem selling them but remember that most times an engine comes out of a boat, it has already passed it's sell by date and often it is more economical to replace the engine with one that has a proper factory warranty.

Although your boat may not be worth a fortune, it will cost you much more than it is worth to replace it. That is your dilemma and being the owner of a Bristol 27, I sympathise with you.

Good luck, Stanley
