I have always experienced problems with excessive belt wear on my B14 (325 hrs). Tried different belts and always adjusted per requirement with no improvement. Belt dust is always heavy around the alternator and has to be cleaned after several hours of running time. Any suggestions?
I will assume that you have the standard 40 amp alternator as you haven't told me otherwise. If this has been happening from day one, I would think that the problem stems from one of two issues.
1) There is little or no ventilation at the front of the engine compartment and the belt is running too hot. You can run the engine with the compartment open to test this theory but please be careful that the turning belt and pulleys are kept away from fingers and toes and other body parts.
2) Are all the pulleys in line? This is most unusual to find that the alternator is out of line.
Thanks for your reply. I will test the added ventilation suggestion as soon as I am able to take the boat out again. I agree that alignment does not seem to be an issue.
