I currently have a 1981 Flicka20. The current BMW D7 is at end of life with multiple issues. I would like to repower with the Beta 10. Has anyone installed a Beta on a Flicka20 ? Darryl of North Marine Services is developing a quote for me. Also, will my 2 blade prop (12xRHx13) need to be changed?
The Beta 10 will be great in your boat. There are a few Flicka's with the Beta 10 already. You will enjoy the engine as it is everything that the D7 is not. The Beta is smooth running and quiet with lots of reserve power.
I have run a prop calc for you. You could have your prop re-pitched to 12"x12" but if you went with a three blade propeller you will get much better drive at the expense of only slightly extra drag. Here I would recommend a 12"x10" three blade with 50% blade area ratio.
Darryl has proven himself and the occasional feedback that we get from customers is always positive. Regards, Stanley

Thanks for the input. What would be a good source for the new prop? I am looking forward to the quote from Darryl. Are there any boat show specials in the works? I want to get my boat repowered by the end of September.
I recommend that you speak to Larry at General Propeller for your prop. His phone number is 800 282 3181. The prop that we have had great success with is the DJ355. He will look after you well as you are part of the Beta Marine family.
I dont discuss any pricing on this forum on purpose. This forum will remain as a resource for years.
Thanks again for the prop info. Darryl will be providing the prop as part of my Beta14 installation.
Question: In some of your literature on your web site there is mention of a raw water pump on the engine. I was under the impression that the Beta Marine engines were fresh water cooled? Also, is there an engine manual available on-line that I could read?
As far as the water pump is concerned, the engine actually has two water pumps. One is the standard Kubota water pump and its job is the circulate the coolant around the engine and through one side of the feat exchanger. This pump is driven by the same belt that drives the alternator. The other pump is the raw water pump and its job is to take the sea water and pump it through the other side of the heat exchanger which cools the coolant in the engine (hence heat exchanger or heat transfer) and this water is then pumped out through the exhaust. This pump has a replaceable rubber impeller. This system has a number of advantages in that the engine has no corrosive salt water in it and the heat exchanger is protected by a zinc anode to limit corrosion.
I wanted to provide an update on the Beta 14 installation in my Flicka20.
The installation was completed last October (2009) but we were not able to do a sea trial. After the tired BMW D7 was removed, the engine bed and engine mount positions had to be modified. Once that was done everything fit nicely. A new exhaust and stuffing box was also installed.
Darryl Eason of #41 North Marine, Nyak, NY, did the installation. I commend him for his professional approach to the installation.
The sea trial was conducted last week right after launch with Darryl in attendance. I am happy to report that everything went according to plan, no issues. The boat will cruise at hull speed @ 2200 RPM. I ended up not replacing the 2 blade prop after all.
I will let you know of any issues worth posting as the season progresses.
