What to paint my Beta 10 with...

Hello All

It would be great to get some advice with stopping corrosion and painting my Beta 10. DOes anyone know the best method for this. And can anyone tell me what colour the beta red is.

I have some corrosion on the engine mounts and the gearbox as well as some of the water pipes running into the heat exchanger.

Regards

Christian

Hello Christian,

The old navy adage works well. "If it moves, grease it and if it doesn't, paint it" works well.

If you have corrosion on the flexible mounts, I suggest that you use a wire brush to get rid of most of it and then a coating of a product like "Ospho". When the Ospho dries you can then paint the metal part of the mounts in the normal way - primer, then paint.

If you let me know what year you engine is, I can pass on the paint code to you. On all engines up to the end of last year, we have been able to purchase the touch up from our local auto parts store. We have paint in stock for the latest VCO complient epoxy paint.

Regards,
Stanley

Hi Stanley

Thank you for the advice.

The funny thing is. Im finding it difficult to identify the model of my engine. When I bought the boat it the engine I.D. late had fallen off. I found its remains rusted in the bilge, unable to make out any details. None of the current beta drawings seem to match my engine. However I am leaning towards a Beta 10 as there is no sump drain pump on my engine and on Beta 10 models this is optional. Also it doesn't seem to have any Sump drain plug on the underside of the shallow sump. (I'm not sure how I will extract the oil - Can anyone suggest how I will do this?)

The boat was manufactured in 1997. Does any of this make sense to you?

Regards

Christian

Hello Christian,
A photo or 2 will help with identification. Also, see if you can get the engine serial number. On the Beta 10 it will be stamped into the flat surface just below the injection pump.
Where are you located?
Stanley
