Fuel hose size etc

Re Beta 60 installation.
I am designing and having built 2 S/S fuel tanks and would like recommendations with regard to Withdrawal tube size, flexible fuel hose size ID going to the engine, NPT size for tank shut off valve. Also installing a Groco 6-port fuel valve for the 2 tanks and have the option of 1/2" or 1" Main NPT.
Would appreciate an expert opinion on these sizes for the Beta 60.
Thanks, Zoe

Hello Zoe,

The Beta engine uses 8mm fuel inlet and return line fittings. 5/16" flexible hose will work fine on these fittings.

I have normally seen 3/8" NPT female threads on fuel tanks. Fittings and manufactured pickup tubes are readily available in aluminum and stainless for this thread size. 1/2" pickups are available but way oversize for a 60 hp engine

The 3/8" NPT fittings will be more economical to purchase then 1" NPT.

Vent fittings are typically 5/8" these can be permenently welded on or a threaded bush fitting can be used with a 5/8" hose adaptor.

Fuel fills should be sized for a minimum 1.5" ID hose. As with vents, fill fittings can be permanently welded on or a threaded bush fitting can be used with a  1 1/2" hose adaptor.

Hi Farron.  I'm installing an aluminum diesel fuel tank for my new Beta 38.  Are the fuel hose, pickups, vents, etc. for my engine sized the same as those that you spec'ed out below?  Also, where would I find this information if I didn't have you to ask?  Should I get a shop manual or something? We're going to be cruising long distances and I want to make sure I have the correct references for the engine. Thanks.  Annie

Hello Annie,

Your Beta 38 will use the same size fuel fittings as the Beta 60 mentioned in the previous post.

You should have received an operators/installation manual with your new engine. The manual will provide the information you need for installing the engine.

If you did not receive a manual with your new Beta engine call your Beta dealer and request a copy.

A copy can be downloaded for free at this link address:

http://www.betamarine.co.uk/literature/operators%20manuals/1640-2838-HE-SOM-1011.pdf

A printed Kubota parts manual and work shop manual for your engine are also available at a reasonable cost.

Good luck!
