I'm installing a new Beta 16 in an old (1975) Catalina 30. I was told the high-rise exhaust manifold wouldn't fit and that I'd have to fabricate my own piping and injection elbow. Now that I've (finally) got the engine on board and in its compartment, I find it sits lower than I expected. I will not have to cut a clearance hole in the forward cover as I was told I'd have to (very happy about that). Has anyone done a similar installation and tried the high-rise manifold?
The Catalina 30's had a few different installations with regard to engine heights and shaft angles. On the very earliest models the engines were set a bit lower. It is possible that you can use the high rise elbow in your Catalina.
We will be happy to provide you the high rise elbow at the on-engine price.
Please call me and we will arrange it.

I apologize for the late reply and feedback. The installation has been complete for about 3 months now and I'm totally delighted with the conversion! The hi-rise manifold fit just fine and everything works great. The new engine starts instantly every time and really moves the boat, easily reaching hull speed with rpms to spare.
I had to fabricate new engine beds for the mounts, and my guide was the location/angle of the shaft coupling. I actually used the new engine as a template, putting it in place temprarily to locate the new engine beds. It was very easy to move around with a ratchet hoist slung from the boom. I was especially delighted at not having to "dome up" the front cover and cut into the seat cushion above it.
The Beta 16 is a very neat little power plant for this boat and fits beautifully. I highly recommend it for anyone else considering repowering a C-30.
