Repowering a CS33

I'm presently thinking of installing a Beta 25 in my boat. This is for a CS33, Displacement weight is 10,000 lbs,  LWL is 27 feet.

The engine I'm replacing is a Bukh DV20.

The ppropeller that is presently on the boat is a three blade 15" X 12" RH.  Maximum speed is about 6 knots. I would like to have a max speed of around 7 knots.

The original propeller was a two blade, 15" X 15".

I would also like to have a high output alernator with a SRA 5 type regulator.

What would your recommendation be for the size of the engine, propeller and alternator.

Hello Roland,

If you go with the Beta 25 the best prop will be a 14"x9" three blade with 50% BAR (the Michigan Wheel MP3 or DJ355 seem to work well with my prop calc). I have worked on 2:1 transmission ratio. You should see 7.5Knots wide open and cruise comfortably at about 6 knots.

The optional alternator is 70 amp and this has a serpentine type belt. This alternator is internally regulated. There is an option of an external controller by Adverc and you can read about this here http://www.adverc.co.uk/news/welcome-to-the-new-adverc-bm-website

I would think that with the shape of your boats hull, you will need the high rise exhaust elbow to be able to make a safe exhaust system.

I suggest that you contact Ben Gartside at Beta Marine Canada. His contact info can be found here http://www.betamarinecanada.com/contactus.html

Cheers, Stanley
