Just starting the install on a Beta 35 with high-rise exhaust, using a Aqualift silencer. Looking at the Beta's Operator's Maintenance Manual, it looks like I only need to add a vent loop / anti-syphon valve if the SW injection point isn't 10" above the water level. Is this correct? I would really like to have direct injection, with no vented loop.
You will need to install a vented loop. It must be located at least 12" above seawater level. This water level must be considered at all angles of heel in the worst conditions. Position the vented loop near center line, and as high as practical.
Sail boats are extremely dynamic in the water and you must plan for a vented loop position that will protect the raw water system from creating a potential siphon in even the worst sea conditions. The vented loop is cheap insurance against damaging the engine with raw water flooding the exhaust.
Remember that any engine damage from water ingress would no be covered under warranty.
