Mystery Boot on Engine; Best Negative Electrical Connection Point?

Referencing the attached photo, what is the little rubber boot identified by the blue arrow?

Regarding the 12 V ground connection to the engine, which of the two points identified by the green arrows is the best to use? There is a label in the vicinity, but not clear exactly to which point the label is intended to point.

Hello Blue Moon,

The rubber boot is an air breather for the starter motor.

Use bolt #1 for grounding.
