I am new to the forum having stumbled across it in my quest to sort an ongoing issue with my Beta BZ482G engine.It is used to spin a meecealte generator on a sailboat.
Engine appears to be running quite well after I have recently removed it, cleaned it up, replaced exhaust elbow and all filters,fluids,belt etc. The heat exchanger stack was removed,cleaned and replaced with new o-rings.
The engine will run for sometimes 15-20 minutes and then will die. It will then start immediately but normally die again but most of the time quite quickly after startup. I noticed the fuel shutoff solenoid is ordering the cutout. So if I hold the shutoff lever in the open position, the engine continues to run. This eliminates the problem of it being any air in the fuel line (I think?) and points to what I think must be an electrical issue. I have sprayed contact cleaner on all connectors. FuelCutoff, heating and start relays, and also temp and oil sender unit spade connectors. The problem continues. On the shutdown sequence, I am left with no warning lights on the panel (ie, no temp or oil pressure). My temp sensor has 3 spade connectors off the back? Not sure why. Only 2 are used. Possibly different levels of resistance?
Any ideas on where I can fault find this issue? Any clues welcome!
I do not have any experience with the factory built small generators so I have to guess that you have a Capricorn control. Here is the fault finding from the Capricorn manual:
Check solenoid hold relay (see relay illustration below). Temporarily swap this relay with preheat relay, try to restart after resetting all shutdowns. If set now runs, replace faulty relay with new
Measure DC voltage o relay blue/red hold wire. This is best done by temporarily removing red/white connection from starter solenoid (inhibiting engine starting), then follow standard start-up procedure, through preheat, fuel solenoid energize, to solenoid hold state. There should be 12 Volts measured on hold wire for engine to continue running after start-up. If voltage is correct, replace fuel solenoid with new

Im sorry that I omitted to acknowledge your reply. Some follow up; I found some of the lugs beneath the relay holder to be loose. Secured these up and seem to have sorted the solenoid cutting out issue for now. Appreciate your help.
