Replacement of the sea water pump

Hi,

I have a 10 year old BD722, 20hp engine Installed in my sailing boat. The sea water pump is leaking water from the backside. I have ordered a new original spare part pump.

My questions are, do I need any special tools to remove the old one and install the new one or is it just to loosen the two screws/clamps and pull it straight out?

Do I need to empty the engine from oil before removing the pump?

When installing the new one, do I need to apply any sealant or is the rubber ring on the new pump sufficient?

Pictures attached. Thanks for any guidance.

BR

Johan

Hello Johan and welcome to our forum.

There are no special tools needed for this job, just a 10mm wrench (spanner) and a screwdriver for the hose clamps. Make sure that you close the sea**** before you start the job.
It is not necessary to drain the oil to replace the pump and the O ring is more than sufficient to seal between the timing cover and the pump. Just make sure that the surfaces are clean before you fit the new pump.

Remember to open the sea**** before starting the engine.

Have fun, Stanley
